Carry the Weight,
Not the Damage
Most men were handed three instructions growing up: handle it, don't make it a thing, and don't let them see you sweat. Useful in an emergency. Expensive as a way of life. This is a workbook for the man who looks fine on paper and knows something underneath isn't.
You are functioning. That was never the question.
You go to work. You handle what needs handling. Nobody looking at your life would say anything is wrong with it. And still there is the short fuse over nothing, the numbness that shows up in your own living room, and the three in the morning meeting your brain schedules without asking.
Most material written for this either treats you like you are fragile or tells you to be harder. This does neither. It gives you the same practical tools used in a therapy room, in plain language, without an appointment.
- The fuse got shorter, and you hear it in your own voice.
- You sleep, and you wake up just as tired.
- You are home, and not really there.
- Whatever takes the edge off is starting to cost more than it gives.
- You can explain your whole life and still not explain how you feel.
None of that means something is wrong with you. It usually means the load has been yours to carry for a long time.
Twenty-seven pages. No filler.
Built on cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and stress physiology, written the way men actually talk so the tools get used instead of shelved.
A two-week check-in to see where you actually are
How stress and anxiety show up in men, which is rarely as "anxious"
Trigger mapping, so you know what sets you off before it does
A step-by-step thought record, the core CBT skill
Eight thinking traps, and a counter for each one
Fast nervous-system resets: box breathing, grounding, the 90-second rule
The anger iceberg, and what your anger is protecting
A seven-day mood and habit tracker
"Say It Straight", scripts for conversations you have been avoiding
The friendship audit, an honest look at isolation
A values worksheet, for what you are doing all of this for
A 30-day plan with relapse-prevention built in
Thirty journal prompts that earn their ink
A one-page emergency reset card, built to keep on your phone
It only works if you write in it.
This is a workbook, not a book. Reading it through in one sitting will not do much. Here is what tends to work.
Start with the check-in
The first two weeks are just noticing. No fixing yet. Most men are surprised by what shows up once they write it down.
One page at a time
Ten minutes when things are loud beats an hour you keep meaning to schedule. The order is suggested, not required.
Keep the reset card
The last page is built to photograph and keep on your phone, so it is there in the moment rather than in a drawer.
What this is, and what it isn't.
You should know exactly what you are buying before you buy it.
This is an educational resource, not therapy.
It does not diagnose anything, it does not treat anything, and buying it does not create a therapist and client relationship between us. A workbook cannot know your history or notice what you are leaving out. A person can.
It works well on its own for everyday stress, anger, and pressure. It also works well alongside therapy, and many people use it that way.
If what you are carrying is heavier than that, working with someone is the better use of your money, and I would rather tell you that than sell you a PDF.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988. Veterans can dial 988 then press 1.
Written by someone who sits in the room.
I'm David Robles, a Licensed Master Social Worker and a U.S. Army veteran practicing in the Clear Lake area of Houston and across Texas by telehealth. Most of my work is with men, veterans, and first responders. This workbook is the material I found myself explaining over and over, written down so it is useful to someone I have never met.
Before you buy.
Is this therapy?
No. It is an educational workbook you complete on your own. It is not therapy, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for treatment. Plenty of people use it alongside therapy. Some use it to figure out whether they want to start.
Do I need a therapist to use it?
No. It is written to stand on its own. If you are already working with someone, bring it in. Most therapists are glad to see a client show up with work already done.
What do I actually get?
One PDF, 27 pages, US Letter size. It downloads right after purchase. Print it or fill it in on a tablet, whichever you will actually use.
How long does it take?
There is a 30-day plan inside, but there is no clock on it. Some men work through it in a week. Some do one page when things get loud and leave it alone otherwise. Both are fine.
Is it just for veterans?
No. It was written with veterans and first responders in mind, and the language reflects that. But the material applies to any man carrying more than he says out loud.
Can I get a refund?
Digital downloads cannot be returned once delivered. If something is wrong with the file, email me and I will fix it.
